Data & methodology
Every published amount should be traceable, current and supported by an official source.
Current coverage
Our reference list includes all 2’110 political municipalities in the Federal Statistical Office’s official register, and every one is listed. Current tax amounts are clearly documented online for 1’955 municipalities. For 155, no clearly established current amount was published online, so we show the verified official contact instead.
Municipality register date: 1 January 2026. The reference list and tax data are updated separately.
Sources we use
We prioritize structured cantonal tables and legal sources. Where the municipality sets the amount, we use official municipal websites, fee regulations and official notices. Responsible offices, phone numbers, email addresses and registration routes are recorded separately from current specialist pages run by municipalities or cantons. If a municipality does not publish a clearly established current amount online, we say so and show the verified official contact instead of estimating.
The ch.ch authority finder
The former dog-tax page on ch.ch included a nationwide search for municipal authority contacts. We retain it as a coverage and cross-check reference. Since the page is no longer available, we do not publish unverified contacts from it. We always link to the current specialist page of the responsible municipality or canton.
How we verify information
A scraper first writes new values to a review file. They then undergo plausibility, completeness and year checks. New or conflicting amounts are not published immediately; they are checked against the original source first. Only then are they added to the published dataset. Every record stores the FSO number, source, review date and change status.
Updates
The full collection is refreshed twice a year. A monthly technical check detects sources that have changed or become unavailable and queues affected records for review.
